Saxonville Mills has cancelled its planned outdoor evening movie night on Sept. 28 due to the increased threat from Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
“For everyone’s safety the City of Framingham is not encouraging after dusk activities, therefor we are having a hard time acquiring the proper permits needed to host this event,” the Mills posted on Facebook. “We are so sad and were truly looking forward to another great Movie Night, but appreciate you understanding.”
Framingham’s EEE threat level was raised to critical along with Sudbury and several other nearby communities. EEE has a roughly 50% fatality rate in humans, according to the Massachusetts Department of Health, and most survivors are permanently disabled. The riskiest time to be outdoors is around dusk, although Framingham city officials recommend extra precautions from dusk to dawn.
