FRAMINGHAM – Two newcomers have pulled papers to run for District 2 School Committee this fall: Lorena Tovar (Chouteau Avenue) and Luther T. Evans (Derby Street). Although incumbent David Gordon told me last week that he planned to run for re-election and expected to request papers soon, he still hadn’t pulled papers as of the most recent posting on the City Clerk Web page. Update: Gordon pulled papers on June 30.
Signature papers are due back to the clerk’s office on July 15. Candidates need 50 signatures from registered voters in the district they seek to represent.
I don’t cover School Committee here (this is a hobby project and that would add significantly more time and effort to maintaining this site). However, in a brief Web search, I did find that Lorena Tovar has spoken at several School Committee meetings, one where she said it was “deeply disappointing to hear how unsupported our teachers feel under the current leadership”, and “frustrating and concerning” that there wasn’t “a more transparent participatory process” for selecting and evaluating the school superintendent. You can see the video of that here around the 20:06 mark: http://vod-framingham.cablecast.tv/CablecastPublicSite/show/3380?channel=1.
I’m sure we’ll hear more about all candidates once they return signature papers. If I get any information about candidate Q&As, debates, or their social media / websites, I’ll pass that along.
