FRAMINGHAM – District 2 is slated to have the city’s sole preliminary election on September 16 (unless a candidate were to withdraw by Aug. 1) , as three candidates have filed to run for School Committee here, according to the list of candidates who returned papers for this year’s local elections. A preliminary election is needed if there are more than two candidates for an elected position.

Incumbent District 2 School Committee member David Tomas Gordon will face challengers Lorena Tovar and Luther T. Evans in the preliminary. The deadline to register for that election is September 6.

In November, incumbent District 2 City Councilor Brandon Ward and former Planning Board member Carol Spack will be on the ballot for the district’s City Council seat.

District 2 is the only one in the city that has contested races for both City Council and School Committee. There are contested City Council races in Districts 2, 3, 4, and 8; and for School Committee in Districts 2 and 6.

City-wide, former School Committee member Geoffrey N. Epstein is challenging incumbent Mayor Charlie Sisitsky at the top of the ballot. A third candidate had pulled signature papers but did not return them by the July 15 deadline.

There is not a contested race for Board of Library Trustees this cycle, as six candidates are running for six seats.
