FRAMINGHAM – The Community Preservation Committee approved all the neighborhood-area projects that were on its Monday agenda, the Ham’er newsletter reported, including
$157,000 to improve the final, middle section of the Getchell Trail;
$327,000 to design improvements to the Walsh-Dunning Softball Field Complex featuring a new amenities building, scoreboards, and a new lower field with dugouts;
$250,000 to design improved access, parking, and “overall usability” at Simpson Park;
$250,000 to partner with Sudbury Valley Trustees (which will also kick in $250,000) to acquire 9 acres of land at 43-45 Nixon Road for conservation. The project proposes creating trails to connect to the Bay Circuit Trail.
$500,000 to help preserve about 100 acres of Eastleigh Farm land as open space through a deed restriction. This project would include a public trail easement for connecting to trails at Callahan State Park. Farm owner Doug Stephan had requested $3 million and now “says he’s developing a comprehensive plan for the Edmands Road property – one that prioritizes preservation, but may require limited development that he has long hoped to avoid,” according to the MetroWest Daily News.
Those recommendations now go to the City Council for a final vote.
A total of $3.5 million was recommended overall; you can see the breakdown at https://thehamer.substack.com/p/cpa-awards-35m-for-13-projects.
