FRAMINGHAM – You can enjoy two festivals in Framingham Centre this Saturday: the annual Earth Day Festival on the Framingham Centre Common, and Science on State Street just across Rte. 9 at Framingham State University.

If you want to walk between them, you can use the pedestrian bridge over Rte. 9 (I’ve done that in past years).

The Earth Day Festival runs from 11 am to 3 pm featuring exhibits around themes of protecting and improving the environment, with exhibitors in categories like sustainable choices, recreation, recycling, and gardening. There will also be some artisans and crafts as well as recycling opportunities. And, there will be live music performers from Centre Music House.

Science on State Street is Framingham State’s annual community STEM festival with “a particular focus on themes relating to planet Earth,” organizers said. “Explore science, technology, engineering, and math and the ways they support environmental justice, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability.”

That event features hands-on activities – many for kids – as well as interactive demonstrations and planetarium events. It will take place at the university’s Christa McAuliffe Center and O’Connor Parking lot.

Both events are free. There’s a special MWRTA shuttle from the Edmands House apartments on Edmands Road in Nobscot that stops at the Earth Day Festival and the FSU McCarthy Center (see the schedule here).

If you’re driving, there’s on-campus parking for Science on State Street at the Salem End Road, Maple Street, and Athletic Field parking lots. Closer to the Earth Day Festival on the Framingham Centre Common, parking is available at the Plymouth Church Parking lot (Edgell Road), First Parish Church (Vernon Street), Danforth Museum (except the first row, which is for museum visitors only), Learning Center for the Deaf (Kellogg of Central Street), and accessible parking only at the Village Hall parking lot.
