The City of Framingham will hold a public meeting on the next phase of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail Extension on Monday, June 29 at 7 p.m. in the Framingham High School. auditorium, the city announced.
This stretch would add a roughly 8,600-foot, 12-foot-wide paved trail along a former railroad right-of-way between Eaton Road West and Frost Street.
The proposal includes a 31-space parking area off Water Street, two culvert replacements to improve drainage, storm water and erosion controls, signage and fencing, and ADA-compliant crossings with pedestrian signals at Water Street and Frost Street. Plans also call for native plantings along the corridor and environmental mitigation for wetland, floodplain, and stream impacts, according to a city press release.
The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is a multi-use path designed to eventually connect Framingham with communities as far north as Lowell. Much of the trail, including a recent section in Sudbury, has been completed. The trail supports non-motorized uses such as walking, jogging, cycling, and rollerblading.
Framingham is encouraging residents, businesses, and stakeholders to come and weigh in on the design. Written comments can be sent to David Shedd at the MassDOT Highway Division, david.shedd@state.ma.us. Comments can also be sent by postal mail to
