FRAMINGHAM – Former State Representative and Framingham Selectman John Stasik has passed away.
Stasik represented north Framingham on Beacon Hill from 1996 to 2000 and was a selectman from 2005 to 2007. He was a co-founder of Friends of Saxonville and active in many neighborhood projects, including the Athenaeum restoration, as well as an advocate for environmental issues, safe bicycling, and public transit.
“Framingham lost one of its longtime champions,” Mary Kate Feeney wrote in her The Ham’er newsletter.
Stasik was also a science teacher in Weston.
“As my 7th grade science teacher, I can honestly say he changed my life. He taught us about the then new ecology movement and why the environment needed us to be activists,” one of his former students posted on Facebook.
His family is receiving family and friends at the Memorial Visitations this Friday from 5 to 8 pm at the John C Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road, (off Route 30) in Wayland, MA. A Memorial Service and Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday at 11 am at the John C Bryant Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at Ken’s Steakhouse (noon to 3 pm).
