State Rep. Maria Duaime Robinson resigned effective yesterday, according to Framingham Source and a report from the State House News Service posted on Facebook. Her position will remain vacant until after the November election.

Rep. Robinson did not seek re-election after being nominated to be an assistant secretary of energy in the U.S. Energy Department by the Biden administration. However, her nomination faced opposition in the U.S. Senate and was not backed by the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. President Biden withdrew the nomination on June 8.

Had Rep. Robinson been approved, the plan was for her position to remain vacant until the election, with neighboring representatives helping to serve the needs of the district. Rep. Robinson currently represents a portion of District 2. However, that area was moved into the Massachusetts 7th Middlesex House district now served by Rep. Jack Lewis.
