One of the most interesting tidbits from tonight’s Bicycle, Pedestrian & Trails Committee meeting: Framingham Director of Planning & Community Development Sarkis Sarkisian said “there’s been some interest” in someone purchasing the old Saxonville firehouse for a brewery. Clearly just in the talking stage, but it would certainly be interesting if it came to fruition!

That was in response to my question about economic development and trails in Saxonville, and whether there were plans to try to connect the end of the Cochituate Rail Trail to the start of the Getchell trail. The city is considering a recreation trail that would be off Concord Street, not on it, which might have another way over the river on the levee instead of Concord Street. That’s a great idea for recreational use, but doesn’t do anything to help bring Cochituate trail users into Saxonville Center businesses like the Saxonville Mill Cafe and Brazilian Family Bakery.

Below is a photo from the presentation about a possible new recreational extension from the end of the Cochituate Rail Trail into Saxonville. Seems like an extension is still in the concept stage, although work on the existing Getchell Trail is planned for this summer.
