District 2 will once again have a contested race for City Council – as it has for every election since Framingham became a city.

One-time Framingham Planning Board member Carol Spack has pulled papers to run for District 2 City Council, as has incumbent City Councilor Brandon Ward.

(Papers are due back to the City Clerk’s office on July 15).

Spack, who served three terms on the Planning Board when Framingham had a town form of government, said that she “loves public service” and would like to contribute her skills and expertise to the Council. She has a Master of City Planning degree from MIT as well as a law degree from Northeastern University.

Ward was elected to the City Council in 2023 after serving as a member of the Keefe Tech School Committee. He is a member of the Council’s Planning & Zoning subcommittee as well as vice chair of the Economic Development subcommittee. He still serves as president of the Friends of Saxonville board and is on the Downtown Framingham Inc. Board of Directors. He is program director of the Leadership MetroWest Leadership Academy and before that worked as senior program manager for Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership.

I plan to do in-depth Q&As with both candidates before the November 4 general election.

For School Committee, incumbent David Gordon told me tonight that he is running for re-election and expects to pull his papers sometime this week.
