FRAMINGHAM – The biggest New Year’s Eve celebration in Framingham will be happening right in our neighborhood! . . . and in other neighborhoods, too. The 3rd Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration on the Cochituate Rail Trail takes place Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Already have dinner or evening party plans? You can still stop by and start your celebration first with neighbors along the trail.
“Enjoy games, singing, activities, and treats at fire pits hosted by different groups from around Framingham,” says Friends of Framingham Trails, which organizes the outdoor party. “Bring your flashlights, fun glow sticks! Decorate your strollers (or yourself!).”
New this year: Natick’s Cochituate Rail Trail New Year’s Eve celebration will take place just over the Rte. 30 pedestrian bridge. That will make for one long trail party, so attendees can easily enjoy the festivities in both Framingham and Natick. (Natick’s New Year’s Eve event took place farther down the trail in past years.) See maps below.
Framingham parking is available at 500 Old Connecticut Path and the TJX parking lot on Speen Street. There will also be limited parking at 2 School Street, directly across from the start of the trail in Saxonville. Don’t want to drive? MWRTA fixed bus routes 2 and 3 are running a modified schedule Wednesday but still should pass right near the start of the trail on Concord Street during the party (ask to exit as close as possible to the intersection with School Street). There’s also bike parking along the trail.
This is a free, family-friendly, no-alcohol event. And, it’s “carry-in, carry out”, so attendees are asked to please be prepared to carry out your trash.
Friends of Natick Trails plans food trucks and live performances by Sonic Cellar and guitarist Memo Rubio at Chrysler Road. They have arranged for party parking at the Natick Mall D garage and Home Depot (if you park there, please use the far ends of the Home Depot lot.)
