FRAMINGHAM – Outdoor summer jazz concerts at McAuliffe Library kick off for the season this Thursday, July 9, when the Mike Fritz Quartet return from 7 to 8 pm. The quartet specializes in the Great American Songbook but play other jazz genres too. (I saw them last year and it was an enjoyable evening!)

Bring a blanket or chairs and enjoy the free concert in Astronaut Grove behind the library building. McAuliffe Library is at 746 Water St. in Nobscot.

The next concert in the series will be jazz bassist Alison Keslow on July 23.

If for some reason jazz isn’t your thing, there’s an oldies rock concert in nearby Wayland this Thursday as well. The Deloreans are playing outdoors at the Wayland Community Center, also from 7 to 8 pm. Although the concert is sponsored by the Council on Aging, people of all ages are welcome. “Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, family and friends!” the announcement says.

There will be one more concert in that series when The Honey Steelers Band plays in Wayland on Thursday, July 16.

Also Thursday, the Farmers Market returns to the Framingham Centre Common after an unexpected week off last week due to the dangerous heat. The market runs from 3 to 7 pm with some food trucks arriving at noon for the lunchtime crowd.

There will be live music here too from Antarctica, which plays 60s and 70s pop classics. Their website says they’ll be playing from 3:30 to 6:30.

You can browse and search this week’s vendors on my unofficial app at https://www.district2framingham.com/farmersmarket . It even has a chatbot where you can ask questions about the vendor lineup (although as always with AI, check results!) as well as a link to the official market web page. App may take a few seconds to load.

The Framingham Centre Common is at Edgell Road, Oak Street, and Vernon Street. Market parking is available on Oak Street (behind Village Hall), First Parish Church, Plymouth Church, and behind Northeast Bank (although the bank lot seems to fill up quickly). The Village Hall parking lot is for handicapped parking only.

Market Manager Bill Sell also posted that there are two MWRTA bus stops at the market, and MWRTA buses are currently free to ride. Route 2 and Route 3 go from Framingham High School, Pinefield, and Nobscot down Edgell Road or vice versa.
